Ball Mills

SPM is the manufacturer and supplier of ball mills used in cement industry, in India. SPM has manufactured and supplied more than 85 ball mills for grinding raw material, coal and clinker. Process engineering as well as the mechanical design of these mills are done with the help of know-how absorbed during long experienced & on hand experience of technocrat engineers & constructors. All the possible designs configurations of grinding systems using ball mills can be offered by SPM. The main systems are: 
 
Ball Mill: The Mill shell is fabricated from IS2062 tested plates. The mill consists, both side end bottoms (material steel casting) Girth gear, Mg. Steel liners bolted with forged bolts & nuts, man holes, feed & discharge hood, torsion shaft, pinion with shaft, pinion bearing housing, cooling system etc. 

Rotary Kilns / Vertical shaft kilns

SPM rotary kilns are mainly known for their constructional strength. Those parts which are subjected to high mechanical stresses such as kiln shell, tyres, supporting rollers bearings, kiln drive are designed to withstand the most hostile conditions and are constantly being modified and kept technically up to date.  
Rotary Kiln & Pre-heater Tower: The kiln shell is fabricated from IS-2062 Tested Plates. The unit consists of tyre rings, Girth gear, Gear guard, Inlet and outlet seal, supporting Roller assembly, pinion assembly feed & discharge hood, etc.  

Tyres are made either in the form of a loose ring or they are fixed to the kiln shell in a toothed form. The toothed tyre attachment reduces the deformation of the kiln shell, and therefore also that of the refractory lining, to a minimum. Kilns with toothed tyres have particularly low lining wear. The bearings for supporting the roller are compact and robust in design and are interchangeable. Cooling is achieved by water circulation.  

The specific features of SPM kilns are:-  
• Most efficient pneumatic inlet seal.  
• Modern graphite block outlet seal.  
• Hydraulic thruster for adjusting the kiln position.  
• Modern three channel coal burner for efficient combustion of coal 

Mill Liner

Cement mill liners protect the shell from abrasive grinding media while optimizing grinding, with types categorized by design (like Wave, Step, Lifter/Rib, Grid, Classifying) and material (like High Manganese Steel, Chrome Moly Steel, Rubber, Ceramic, Composite), all engineered for specific performance like lifting media, media classification, or noise reduction.  

Mill head
  • Material Composition: Mill heads are typically made from a single piece of cast steel, though nodular cast iron is also commonly used due to its high strength, good ductility, and cost-effectiveness. Specific grades include EN-GJS-400-18, EN-GJS-450-10, or cast steel Grade GS-60.1 (DIN 17100).
     
  • Structural Design: The design is typically a flat or conical shape without internal reinforcement ribs, which were found to have a detrimental effect on radial stress. The shape is optimized to handle high flexural stresses and dynamic loads.
     
  • Manufacturing Process: The manufacturing process involves precision casting, often utilizing CAE software for simulation to ensure quality, followed by heat treatment and precise machining of the flange for bolting to the mill shell.  
Pre heater tower

A preheater tower in the cement industry is a tall, multi-stage cyclone system that uses hot exhaust gases from the rotary kiln to efficiently heat and partially decompose raw meal (cement mix) before it enters the kiln, drastically improving energy efficiency, increasing clinker output, and shortening the kiln's length by pre-evaporating water and initiating calcination (CaCO3 to CaO + CO2).

SPM can offer high-quality girth gears for ball mills, rotary dryers, and rotary kilns according to users' drawings and requirements. The girth gear drives the entire tube body to run for a long time.  

 

Grate Coolers

SPM has completely indigenised the grate cooler design. SPM has supplied grate coolers for various plants which are working satisfactorily. In its effort to modernise, SPM is in touch with the recent trends in grate cooler design and has already taken steps to bring the modern features, so the recouperation efficiency is improved, total cooling air requirement is reduced and as a result, total specific power consumption for the cooler is reduced. 
SPM also offers planetory coolers which are simple in design, do not require separate dedusting, drive and also make the total system compact.
